Using temperature-reduced asphalt in road construction helps save the climate and protect the environment

Dortmunder Gußasphalt GmbH & Co. KG is showcasing a classic from its extensive product portfolio at this year’s German Road and Transportation Congress organised by the German Road and Transportation Research Association (FGSV): the surface-active, reactive additive Colzuphalt®.

Here, the low-viscosity Colzuphalt® at room temperature is used as an additive directly at the asphalt mixing plant or as a prefabricated binder in asphalt production. The paving temperature of the asphalt mix can be lowered by
up to 30 °C.

Working with the low-temperature asphalt produced in this way yields numerous advantages in terms of climate and environmental protection or occupational safety:

  • The concentration of vapours and aerosols is minimised
  • Lowering the temperature of the asphalt saves energy during production of the asphalt mix
  • At the same time, CO₂ emissions are reduced – with a positive effect on the overall energy balance
  • As Colzuphalt® is a surface-active additive, it does not change the binder properties according to TL Bitumen

“While environmental and climate protection have only become more important in road construction in recent years, our company has been offering this product to its customers for decades – thus helping to conserve resources,” explains Stefaan Haerinck, Sales Manager Road Construction at the dga Group.

The use of Colzuphalt® has been tried and tested for years on many exposed traffic routes, especially bridge decks. This is also underscored by the fact that Colzuphalt® is listed by the Federal Highway Research Institute (BASt) as a proven product for reducing the temperature of asphalt (see “Collection of experience on the use of finished products and additives for reducing the temperature of asphalt”, BASt).

From 23 to 25 October 2024, our knowledgeable sales team will be available at stand N43 to answer your questions about the product and its potential applications. We look forward to your visit!
